For
nearly three decades,
the Florida Dance Festival has been Florida's leading
summer dance training program and one of the major annual
dance events in the southeastern U.S. Our distinguished
program offers workshops, master classes and an outstanding
performance series featuring Florida, national and international
guest artists.
The
Festival unites a diverse, global community of choreographers,
performers, teachers and students for an intense ten
days of study, exploration and exchange. Participants
experience a range of dance styles and movement expression
in a supportive and nurturing environment with some
of the field's outstanding contemporary master teachers
and choreographers. The noncompetitive atmosphere encourages
the exchange of views and ideas and provides fertile
ground for personal and artistic experimentation and
growth.
New
to the Festival this year is a series of five repertory
and performance workshops led by an extraordinary team
of artists in ballet, contemporary modern dance, hip
hop, dance-theater and African dance. Participants in
these workshops will create a new work or learn a work
already in the choreographer’s repertory that
will be performed in a Festival
Finale Program.
This new public performance component
will highlight the exceptional talent of the dancers
and performers who attend our Festival.
In addition to the repertory workshops,
the schedule of daily classes is designed for serious
students and professionals seeking a rich and deeply
satisfying dance experience. Students, teachers and
choreographers are encouraged to take risks and challenge
themselves. Classes are limited in size to provide more
individualized instruction and maintain the quality
of the learning experience. Evenings are filled with
performances by nationally and internationally acclaimed
guest artists as well as Florida's own dance community.
We invite participants to bring family and friends along
for a “tropicool” vacation in sunny South
Florida. What better time to enjoy the cool waters of
the Atlantic than a hot summer day in June? South Florida
is known world-wide for its cultural, historical and
sightseeing attractions, its beautiful crystalline beaches
and, of course, exotic South Beach with its shops, galleries,
cafes and colorful nightlife. The Florida Dance Festival
offers a great opportunity to expand one's knowledge
and experience in dance, and have a relaxing summer
vacation at the same time.
